There is something WE DO want to spread these days and it’s kindness. As a society, we have been challenged in more than one way over the last few years. But something that hasn’t expired is the power KINDNESS has in a home, community and in the world. Let’s dive into a few ways kindness can be practiced in our home and community.

As part of the big pivot I had to make in my work, going from speaking as the majority of my income to primarily working as publishing at CRP, we put a major focus on community. We began offering free community events where we invited authors from a multitude of publishing houses and had them present on zoom as a collective panel on a specific theme. In 2021, we hosted the following panels: Poetry, Mental Health, Pride Month, Literacy Panel, Make a Difference Day, and World Peace Day.

A few days ago, I shared how I work to keep the content I consume positive as much as I can. I thought I would share a few things I have discovered that help with this:

• Sign up for this email newsletter, The Good Stuff, which is sent every Sunday featuring kindness in world news!
• Watch a movie called The Kindness of Strangers (more for adults than kids)
• Read a book about kindness like Wonder (not just for kids!)

One of our books at Cardinal Rule Press, Kindness is a Kite String, focuses on how one kind act can spread and act as a sort of boomerang. The book follows the main character, an Asian American boy who starts the ripple effect. Written in similes and metaphors, there are so many ways teachers can use this book as a teaching tool in the classroom. The book reminded me of the movie Pay it Forward and this video from YouTube.
