At Cardinal Rule Press, we are lucky to work with amazing and talented authors. Not only are they talented – they’re EXPERIENCED! These are folks who have been through the submissions process, hustled, researched, worked, and come out on the other side with a published children’s book.

Cardinal Rule Press’ submission season begins November 1st, so we asked for ADVICE from some of our favorite authors and are excited to share their TIPS that can, hopefully, keep you moving forward in your journey.

REMINDER: Authors are people, too! In fact, they love to hear from readers and fans of their books. EDUCATE YOURSELF ON WHAT MAKES THE PUBLISHING COMPANY SPECIAL
Cardinal Rule Press focuses on empowering children and encouraging the development of positive traits. My advice would be to pick a manuscript that embodies these traits AND read all of the books they’ve published to see what traits they haven’t covered yet. Publishers don’t publish what they already have. Does your manuscript focus on any of these missing traits? Go on a treasure hunt and find a missing trait….then pick a manuscript that embodies that missing trait. That could very well make your manuscript stand out like gold.”

Author, Raja’s Pet Camel

FOLLOW GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION
It is really important to read and follow the publisher’s guidelines. One incorrect step and your manuscript could be easily thrown out. Go through their catalog and make sure that your manuscript belongs on the shelf with the titles they have already published.”
~ Claire Noland
Author, Evie’s Field Day

LOOK AHEAD AND KEEP WRITING
“After you submit, focus on the next project. Keep on writing and improving your craft. That way you will always feel like you are moving forward, even if that particular manuscript isn’t the one to sell.”

~ Michelle Schaub
Author, Kindness in a Kite String

BE YOURSELF
BE YOURSELF and believe in your own journey. With writing and wanting so badly to be published, we often get caught up in what everyone else is doing. All of the book announcements that everyone else is getting. It can weigh on us. Easier said than done, but continue to do YOU! Write your experiences, what inspires you, what makes you tick. I believe that when you stay in your lane, stars will align and it will happen for you. Your IT may be different than what happens for others. But, it’s your journey. Follow it.”
~ Michelle McAvoy
Author, Cookie and Milk

I enjoy following the publishing house and their authors on social media platforms to keep me connected and informed. Cardinal Rule Press does a fabulous job providing clear expectations for submissions on their website and social media platforms.”
