In this interview, we heard from Matthew Bushong at the Lancaster Public Library.

Interview Highlights

  • Lancaster Library is one of the oldest library in the country at 260 years old and keeper of the some of the oldest and rarest book collections under lock and cage. To check out these old and rare books, you need to make an appointment with the library, especially for research purposes.
  • During this current state of Covid 19, Lancaster Public Library, allows curbside pick ups for their patrons via a call or an email for the list of books they need. Pick up is usually the following day. The libray also hosts virtual storytimes at this time.
  • The library’s children’s section is a circular reading area for storytimes for kids and schools that come in for a visit. Storytimes would normally consist of a craft activity or a song from library volunteers and play with so many toys they bring out for such occasion.
  • One of the library’s pride is their art gallery where they showcase art works of their patrons. Selection of art pieces to showcase vary from either highlighting a number of artworks from single patron or a series of different artworks from various people.
