The Blog

There are so many business books I have read that have benefited our publishing company or my author platform. Over the next few months, I will highlight some of my favorite business books with a brief synopsis of the book as well as my top ten take aways or quotes.

Book Title: The 4-Hour Workweek

Author: Timothy Ferriss

Business Book Review-The 4-Hour Workweek - cardinalrulepress.com

Book Synopsis:

Forget the old concept of retirement and the rest of the deferred-life plan–there is no need to wait and every reason not to, especially in unpredictable economic times. Whether your dream is escaping the rat race, experiencing high-end world travel, or earning a monthly five-figure income with zero management, The 4-Hour Workweek is the blueprint.

This step-by-step guide to luxury lifestyle design teaches:

  • How Tim went from $40,000 per year and 80 hours per week to $40,000 per month and 4 hours per week
  • How to outsource your life to overseas virtual assistants for $5 per hour and do whatever you want
  • How blue-chip escape artists travel the world without quitting their jobs
  • How to eliminate 50% of your work in 48 hours using the principles of a forgotten Italian economist
  • How to trade a long-haul career for short work bursts and frequent “mini-retirements”

The new expanded edition of Tim Ferriss’ The 4-Hour Workweek includes:

  • More than 50 practical tips and case studies from readers (including families) who have doubled income, overcome common sticking points, and reinvented themselves using the original book as a starting point
  • Real-world templates you can copy for eliminating e-mail, negotiating with bosses and clients, or getting a private chef for less than $8 a meal
  • How Lifestyle Design principles can be suited to unpredictable economic times
  • The latest tools and tricks, as well as high-tech shortcuts, for living like a diplomat or millionaire without being either

My Review:

I’ve always believed that one could get more done with focus to shorten their day at work. This book proves my point. Some of the ideas are quite outrageous and eclectic but a little risk goes a long way.

Top Ten Quotes:

  1. “For all of the most important things, the timing always sucks. Waiting for a good time to quit your job? The stars will never align and the traffic lights of life will never all be green at the same time. The universe doesn’t conspire against you, but it doesn’t go out of its way to line up the pins either. Conditions are never perfect. “Someday” is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you. Pro and con lists are just as bad. If it’s important to you and you want to do it “eventually,” just do it and correct course along the way.”
― Timothy Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek
  2. “People will choose unhappiness over uncertainty.”
  3. “The question you should be asking isn’t, “What do I want?” or “What are my goals?” but “What would excite me?”
  4. “If you are insecure, guess what? The rest of the world is, too. Do not overestimate the competition and underestimate yourself. You are better than you think.”
  5. “The opposite of love is indifference, and the opposite of happiness is boredom.”
  6. “To enjoy life, you don’t need fancy nonsense, but you do need to control your time and realize that most things just aren’t as serious as you make them out to be.”
  7. “Focus on being productive instead of busy.”
  8. “Being able to quit things that don’t work is integral to being a winner”
  9. “Most people are fast to stop you before you get started but hesitate to get in the way if you’re moving.”
  10. “Learn to be difficult when it counts. In school as in life, having a reputation for being assertive will help you receive preferential treatment without having to beg or fight for it every time.”
